The Spiral Stairs are a location in ICO.

Walkthrough[]

The room is a tower of a huge atrium structure, and a spiral staircase extends upward as if tracing the inner wall. There are two ladders on the bottom floor, but head to the ladder on the left side of the screen first. As you continue the path along spiral staircase, a cutscene of Yorda trapped inside the cage will begin after climbing the chain. The platform ahead is crumbled and you can't move forward, but you can however climb up the inner wall of the tower and go out through the broken window.

When you are outside, climb to the back window as it is, and proceed to the end of the collapsed platform. There is a lever at the top of the tower, at the end of the spiral staircase. When you pull the lever here, Yorda's cage is lowered down. After that, climb down the spiral staircase to the bottom. When returning, it is faster to fall down. At this height, Ico will not die, remember that.

When you return to the bottom of the spiral staircase, go straight ahead and climb the ladder opposite the one that you came down. After that, when you jump to the top of the cage that Yorda is trapped in, the cage falls down, and its door opens with the impact. When Yorda comes out, an eerie black shadow appears and takes Yorda away, so when the cutscene is over and you can move, pick up the wooden stick that fell right next to you and drive away the shadow.

If Yorda gets sucked into the black portal, hurry up and use the R1 button to save her or the game will be over. Once you have dispatched the shadow, use the R1 button to take Yorda's hand to the stone statues shaped like a totem pole, which will be the exit gate. Then a light is emitted from Yorda, and the seal is released. The stone statues are opened, and you are allowed to go out. Take Yorda's hand, go out the gate and climb the platform to proceed.
