Quetzalcoatl is an archetypical unused colossus, its name first discovered in the data sheets.

Textures of Quetzalcoatl.

While there's no screenshot of Quetzalcoatl, alternate versions of one of its textures are those of scaly skin, indicating that the colossus was some kind of reptile. The other textures, going by their names, includes a ruin cross-section (isekidanmen) also used in Griffin A's model; an armor piece (soukou) also used in Phoenix's model; fur and stone eyes. Its name suggests that it was likely inspired by the myth itself.

The Quetzalcoatl myth is a feathered serpent, which might mean it was a type similar to Worm, the 7th, 10th, and 13th colossi. There is a "Snake 2" referenced in the sheets, but no Snake 2 model, which likely means that it used another name and not "Snake 2". Quetzalcoatl on the other hand has a model, but isn't referenced in the "se-frame-table". This, coupled with the concept art for a colossus named "Snake II", which the design was used for the 10th colossus, makes it very likely that Quetzalcoatl and Snake 2 are the same.

The Phoenix armor piece texture likely means that a part of its body was similar to that of Phoenix's. If one compares the earliest Phoenix image with the Snake II concept, one can see that the armor on the bottom of both of their necks is near identical. Another texture, this time one used on Griffin's early model, can also be guessed. As both Griffin and Quetzalcoatl have markings throughout their body, it's possible that the "isekidanmen" texture is the markings. The other Griffin armor textures were recolored later on and used on the 14th colossus, with the exception of this texture.

Comparison of the 10th colossus and Quetzalcoatl sizes.

As seen in the concept, Snake II was a very small colossus, being less than a tenth the size of the 10th colossus. Since the size of the 10th colossus wasn't changed manually in-game like most other bosses, this means that Snake II likely used a different model, Quetzalcoatl, and not Narga’s (10th) initially.

Location[]

As an archetypical boss, it never left its earliest tests, which were conducted in a test stage. Being a Snake (13th colossus) archetype, a possibility is that it was tested in Stage 05 - Desert, before being rejected. There's no evidence of it ever having its own separate test stage.

Trivia[]

  • The "Phoenix" texture in its texture segment suggests that it existed alongside Phoenix, and wasn't a prototype of it.
