Liberated Guardian (放たれた番人 Hanatareta Bannin), also named "Guardian Unleashed" in some releases, is a song from Shadow of the Colossus and track 24 of the Roar of the Earth soundtrack. It was composed for the game by Kō Ōtani.

Uses

1.

Its first usage is in the battle against the 8th colossus, after Wander is first noticed by it. It will play throughout the battle unless the boss has tumbled down.

2.

Its second usage is in the battle against the 11th colossus. It plays throughout the fight, until Wander has managed to jump on top of it after its armor breaks.

3.

Its third and final usage is in the battle against the 14th colossus. Just as the previous usage, it will play throughout the fight until the colossus' armor is broken, only this time it will switch to A Despair-filled Farewell without the need to jump on top of it first.

Trivia

• Liberated Guardian was made to accompany the song "A Despair-filled Farewell". In the files, Liberated Guardian is named M13P / pinch_13 and A Despair-filled Farewell is M13B / battle_13.
• This song appears to have been created for the smaller / faster colossi, as it's featured in most of their battles. Dormin also describes the 11th and 14th colossi as "guardians", which the song name makes reference to.
  • In the japanese version, Dormin refers to both the 11th and 14th colossi as "hanatareta bannin", same as the song name.
• The japanese name of the song can be translated as "The Unleashed Watchdog". Fitting both the 11th colossus (which resembles a komainu statue) and the 14th colossus (Due to being named Cerberus, and acting like a watchdog to the Ruins).
• This song is not featured in the battle against the 14th colossus in the E3 Demo. The music that plays in the first phase of the battle is A Messenger From Behind instead.
• This is one of five songs with the "pinch" name in the AdpcmFileDEFAULT sheet, the others are: A Violent Encounter, Grotesque Figures, In Awe of the Power and Gatekeeper of the Castle Ruins.
