The Dark Room is a location in ICO.
Walkthrough[]
After going alone inside the Dark Room and dropping the box to the Graveyard in order to open the door to the area, enter with Yorda. Now climb the ladder again, jump to the chain, and go to the balcony outside the upper floor. From the balcony, go to the entrance on the left side of the screen. Once back in the room, grab the ladder from the edge of the wall, then jump from the ladder to the chain directly behind you. When the platform rises up, you need to hold
on the chain in order to be able to swing back and forward, and jump to the top of the raised platform. When Ico jumps onto the platform, shadows will appear, so press
to pull Yorda up immediately. If she touches the stone statues, the shadows will be quickly wiped out.

Development History[]
PS1 Era[]
Early layout from the PS1 Era showing the earlier design of st01b and its connections.
Early on in development during the PlayStation 1 Era, as seen in a diagram shared by Kazuhiro Numata, an earlier iteration of stage 01b used to connect to the second floor of the Chandelier, as well as to an unused location known as the "Dynamite Room". Chains were used to climb down to it.[2]
E3 2000 (May 2000)[]
E3 2000 Demo version of the stage.
A temporary version of st01b was created for the E3 2000 Demo.[3] This iteration of the stage had a lever next to its entrance, and it also had a bridge. The exit at the end of the stage, which used to lead to the top floor of Chandelier as seen in the PS1 diagram above, led to the ground floor entrance of Chandelier instead, through the big door (the place leading to Drawbridge in the retail game).[4]

PlayStation Underground (June 2000)[]
The stage in the PSU footage.
Footage from the PlayStation Underground 4.2, which was from June 2000, showed the same entrance but the bridge and lever were missing. In their place, a box and a chain were seen. The chain placement matches the PS1 diagram, with the player having to climb down to st11a to progress.
Trivia[]
- Its stage number (st01b) implies that another stage (st01a) connected to it at some point in development. In a very early stage layout it can be seen that Proto connected to st01a, which then connected to st01b.
