The 6th Colossus, resembling a bearded minotaur, is one of sixteen bosses fought in Shadow of the Colossus. This giant is found in a remote temple in quadrant D6 of the Forbidden Lands.
Path to the colossus[]
- See also: Map for this path
The path to this colossus is easily the most involved and complex one yet. There are several ways to get there, but the most direct path is through the Autumn Forest. Finding the forest is easy enough - the sword's light will direct the player there from the Shrine of Worship - but finding a way out of the woods can be tricky. The northwestern corner of the woods is where to head; there, there is a path leading out into the sunlight of the Blasted Lands. Refer to the video if having trouble locating the exit. The sword will direct the player south now. The temple where the 6th colossus resides is past the Blasted Lands' save shrine. Agro cannot follow Wander into the temple, as he must climb several obstacles in the ruined halls that she cannot get past. Proceed into the main hall of the temple and a cutscene will play. Find a safe way down to the floor now. Head straight forward to the edge of the floor and look at the wall below; Wander can climb down the ridges (the player can also survive jumping at this height, but there is a considerable health loss). Once he's reached the bottom, the ground shakes, and the wall begins to open.
Walkthrough[]
The 6th colossus will be right next to Wander as the battle begins (unless another way down was taken), but it is not likely aware of him yet. Take the advantage and get a head start. The goal is to reach the far end of the temple hall. Three walls stand in Wander's way, and he must climb them quickly; the colossus will follow him and smash them apart as it walks through them (a cutscene will play the first time it does this).
Once at the far end, seek cover in the small alcove built into the wall, and get out of sight behind a pillar. Get the colossus' attention if necessary (whistling is recommended, as the player can remain hidden), and eventually it will look for Wander by putting its left hand down on the ground and lowering its beard. Jump out of hiding quickly and onto the beard (Hard Mode players will want to go for the hand as well). The 6th colossus has a weakspot on its lower left back as well as its head. It will try to throw Wander off plenty of times when going for the head, but the spot on its back is even more dangerous, as it's harder to get to a place where stamina can be recovered.
- Time Attack times in Original and PS3 versions (Normal, Hard): 3:30, 6:30
- Time Attack times in PS4 Remake (Normal, Hard): 3:30, 6:00
Weakspots[]
Location | Percentage of health | |
---|---|---|
Normal | Hard | |
On its head | 50% | 33.3% |
The lower-left side of its back | 50% | 33.3% |
The back of its left hand | N/A | 33.3% |
Tips and tricks[]
- The 6th colossus has an attack where it will try to pound Wander with its fist if he gets too close. This gives very skilled or lucky players a brief window of opportunity to leap on its hand and use the momentum to propel themselves up to its upper-body. Sadly, this generally doesn't help players on Hard Mode, since the colossus will mostly try to smash Wander with its right arm, and the sigil is located on the back of its left hand.
- If timed just right, while standing on one of the walls, the player can actually jump onto the colossus' arms, allowing Hard Mode players to take out the major sigil on the back of its left hand. At this point, it is also possible to use the momentum of its arm to propel Wander up to its upper-body.
- When Wander is attacking the colossus' head weakpoint, it will often try to throw its head backwards in an attempt to buck him off. Before it does this, however, its head will lower slightly. Stabbing the sigil during this time, with whatever charge Wander has got built up in his stab, will often cancel the animation and leave him ready for another attempt.

Trivia[]
General[]
- This is the first of three colossi that are fought underground; the others are the 8th and 10th colossi.
- This is the only colossus to use its fists as its primary weapon; the 15th colossus does use its hands to attack, but only after it has been disarmed.
- In the English releases of the game, Dormin uses the line "It lusts for destruction..." to describe both the 14th and 6th colossi.
- However, in the original Japanese they use separate lines. The 6th colossus is described using the phrase "破壊を好み" (It enjoys destruction.) While the 14th's description uses the phrase "破壊を望む" (It desires destruction.)
- This is the only colossus to emerge from behind a wall that opens upon Wander's arrival by itself. the 2nd colossus is behind a wall initially, but rather than it opening as it does for the 6th, the 2nd colossus breaks it down. This door will remain open during the duration of the fight (although it remains too high for Wander to climb over, so Wander cannot enter the chamber that the 6th colossus emerges from), which means that Wander cannot escape the chamber normally once the fight begins. However, it will close after it has been defeated, allowing Wander access to the colossus' body on the lowest floor in order to enter Reminiscence Mode and exit the chamber afterwards.
- This colossus shares physical similarities with both the 1st and 15th colossi. The 6th colossus is the largest of the three.
- The 6th colossus makes sounds very much like that of a bellowing, roaring bear.
- The major sigil on the colossus' head is off-center and is not facing straight; it's more on the left side of its head and vertically points slightly to the left as well.
- From the location in which it is fought, this is one of three battles that the player is unable to see the pillars of light that the fallen bodies of other colossi emit, with the other two being the 8th and 10th colossi.
- The fight against the 6th colossus is similar to the fight against the 4th; in both instances, Wander must lead the colossus to the entrance of some ruins which he must then hide within. He then has to wait for the colossus to bend/kneel down and peer into the entrance of the ruins in an attempt to find him. By leaning down to search for Wander, the 6th colossus lowers its head, making its long beard accessible (in the fight against the 4th colossus, the two rock columns dangling from either side of its head act as the 6th's beard does), allowing Wander to climb up it and onto the colossus.
- The 6th colossus is unique in that it is the only colossus which Wander doesn't have to weaken, disable, provoke, hit, or attack in a weak spot in order for him to gain access to its weakpoint sigils. It will simply follow Wander, kneel down once he is inside the ruins, and Wander can then climb up its beard, which leads directly to its sigils.
- The 6th colossus' walking speed is faster than Wander's running speed.
- If Wander doesn't do anything while the colossus is kneeling down, it will eventually smack the area above Wander to draw him out.
- The 6th colossus is the bulkiest out of all the bipedal colossi, having huge biceps, a heavily-built upper body, and chunky legs.
- The 6th colossus has some small horns on its head. They appear to be sculpted.
- This is the only bipedal colossus that has no weapon.
Earlier versions[]
- A Famitsu interview details the 6th colossus' development: "It's a Colossus derived from the first one. We called it Minotaur B. After all, the humanoid form is flexible, isn't it? You can make them behave in many different ways, so it's much easier to come up with ideas for them compared to Colossi that stand on four legs. In fact, we wanted to have it put its hand inside the building as it looked for you, but technologically speaking that was too difficult for the current hardware. Also, in the early stages of development, it had a weapon, just like the 1st Colossus."[1][2]
- In the famitsu nicknames interview, it is revealed that the developers wanted to have the 6th colossus put its hand inside the temple in an attempt to look for Wander, however the idea was too difficult technologically for the current hardware so it was scrapped.
- The 6th colossus was the 11th in the E3 Demo version. It carried a weapon, and was more aggressive and mobile, being able to sidestep like the 15th colossus, as well as having incredible reach. However, it sometimes has trouble swinging its weapon, as it may hit the arena's walls and bounce back.
- Looking into the weapon's model, it was found that four models were bundled into one, resulting in the strange look that the weapon has in-game. They are named from A to D, all unique in shape. "A" is a battle axe/cleave, "B" is a hatchet, "C" is a giant knife similar to the 15th colossus', and "D" is a handle with no blade.
- In the E3 Demo, an animation used by the 6th colossus is named: "minotaur_A_add_body_back_damage_forMinoB", which is the one that plays after Wander stabs its back sigil. It seems they were already testing this weakpoint on the 1st colossus before implementing it on the 6th.
- Another animation, this time used by the 15th colossus, is named: "minotaur_A_add_mune_l_damage_forMinoB.anb", which is the animation that plays after Wander stabs the Hard Mode sigil on the 15th colossus' chest. It seems this was originally intended for the 6th colossus, and was tested on the 1st before it was implemented on it.
- In the Preview version of the game, the theme "The Opened Way" plays once Wander grabs onto it.
- According to the data sheets, the 6th colossus did not have a unique HUD icon, which is an icon in the shape of the colossus that used to show the weakpoint locations in early builds. It most likely used another colossus' icon, possibly being the one from the 1st colossus.
