The Autumn Forest is a location and one of 24 save shrines in Shadow of the Colossus.
Description[]
It is a relatively small yet complex forested area. It contains three fruit trees, the most of any single-quadrant area, and three white-tailed geckos.
The terrain on the forest floor is bumpy and hard to navigate quickly on horseback; however, going through the forest is the most direct way to reach a few colossi. An almost-hidden passage in the far southwest area of the forest leads out to the Blasted Lands; the 6th colossus' temple and the 13th colossus' desert lie just beyond.
Location[]
Located in the central area of the Forbidden Lands in quadrant E5. Its shrine is located on the eastern side of the region, within the forest.
Significant nearby areas[]
- After arriving inside the forest, the first path north goes to the Stone Bridge Cliff.
- The Blasted Lands is to the west of the forest.
- Southwest past the Blasted Lands, the 6th colossus can be found.
- Down south, the arena of the 13th colossus can be found.
- To the east, the 1st colossus' temple can be discovered.
- Northeast is the way back to the Shrine of Worship.
Trivia[]
- This area was renamed to Forest of Giants in the PS4 Remake, likely because the forest was made to be more full of life instead of a forest full of dead leaves, which is why it was called "Autumn" Forest.
- Another change brought to the area in the PS4 Remake was the introduction of an easter egg of The Last Guardian, a barrel containing glowing, blue liquid and surrounded by many blue butterflies. This easter egg can be found inside of a cave also missing from the original location.
- In the E3 Demo, the towers by the entrance of the forest are missing.
- Also in the E3 Demo, an ambient texture with a top view of E5 appears to show an earlier version of the area without the forest, instead having several narrow paths akin to those of Stone Arch Gorge. It seems the forest was added fairly late into development.
- In the PSU Demo, entering the forest via hacks or a skilled jump from Agro will trigger its ambient sound effects to play, but as they were removed in this demo, what plays instead are the next sounds on the list, those being one of Mono's voice and the 1st colossus' introduction cutscene.
