A Despair-filled Farewell (絶望との別れ Zetsubō to no Wakare), also named "Farewell To Despair" in some releases, is a song from Shadow of the Colossus and track 25 of the Roar of the Earth soundtrack. It was composed for the game by Kō Ōtani.

Final Version

1.

Its first usage is in the battle against the 5th colossus, after Wander jumps and grabs one of its wings. It will switch back to Silence if Wander falls.

2.

Its second usage is in the battle against the 8th colossus, after it has tumbled down from the wall. It will switch back to Liberated Guardian when the boss manages to stand back up.

3.

Its third usage is in the battle against the 11th colossus, after its armor is broken and the player manages to land on top of it. The song will not switch back to Liberated Guardian once it begins playing.

4.

Its fourth and final usage is in the battle against the 14th colossus after its armor is broken, not switching back to Liberated Guardian once it begins playing.

Preview Version

1.

Its first usage is in the battle against the 8th colossus, after it has tumbled down from the wall. It will switch back to Liberated Guardian when the boss manages to stand back up.

2.

Its second usage is in the battle against the 10th colossus, when it is stunned after hitting the wall. It will switch back to A Messenger From Behind when the boss manages to dislodge itself and escape.

3.

Its third usage is in the battle against the 11th colossus, after its armor is broken and the player manages to land on top of it. The song will not switch back to Liberated Guardian once it begins playing.

4.

Its fourth and final usage is in the battle against the 14th colossus after its armor is broken, not switching back to Liberated Guardian once it begins playing.

E3 Demo Version

1.

Its first usage is in the battle against the 10th colossus (Leo, which is the 11th colossus in the final version), after its armor is broken and the player manages to land on top of it. The song will not switch back to Liberated Guardian once it begins playing.

Its second and final usage is in the battle against the 14th colossus after its armor is broken, not switching back to A Messenger From Behind once it begins playing.

Trivia

• A Despair-filled Farewell was made to accompany the song "Liberated Guardian". In the files, Liberated Guardian is named M13P / pinch_13 and A Despair-filled Farewell is M13B / battle_13.
• This song appears to have been created for the faster colossi, as it's featured in most of their battles.
• This is one of six songs that have the "battle" name in the AdpcmFileDEFAULT sheet, the others are: The Opened Way, Revived Power, Counterattack, A Messenger From Behind and Final Battle.
• In the Preview version, this song did not play for the 5th colossus. The song featured in that battle was Counterattack instead.
• This song only plays for the 11th and 14th colossi in the E3 Demo.
